Help us keep the hive humming.
Apiary is free for the people who use it. Always. Donations keep the lights on— processors, bills, the always-on machine running the drips and the free AI chat — and whatever's left goes to real bee conservation orgs. Honest split. No 100% noble lies.
🎯 First community goal: fund our first 2 processors so we can scale the hive. More compute → more drips → more articles → more bees reached.
Apiary's success IS bee help.
Bee populations are in real trouble. The drop is quiet — no headlines, no sirens — but every honeybee, bumblebee, and solitary bee we lose is a thread out of the food web. Apiary's job is to be a trustworthy information hub that millions of people can reach — for free, no ads, no walls. That work itself bends the curve back up: SEO presence kills spam, helper-bee networks build community, free AI lets anyone learn about pollinators in 30 seconds.
But it costs to run. Processors. Electricity. Bandwidth. When we exceed free tiers — Cloudflare, Ollama hosting, Vercel — donations keep us in the air without ever charging users a cent. And whatever's left after we cover that flows to real bee conservation orgs.
Honest beats noble.Fake “100% to bees” claims always have a hidden Stripe fee, a hidden infra bill, a hidden salary. We'd rather tell you straight: your donation funds the whole loop — platform AND downstream conservation. Without one, the other doesn't happen.
The honest breakdown
Processors, bills, infra (running the hive)
The biggest line right now. Founder runs Apiary off a personal machine generating articles via local Ollama 24/7. First goal: fund 2 processors so the hive scales past one box. Then: electricity, bandwidth, any future overage when free tiers cap. Without this, the rest of the work never reaches anyone.
Bee-friendly habitat + research + education
The surplus — whatever's left after Apiary keeps running — flows to real conservation orgs (The Honeybee Conservancy, Xerces Society, local pollinator partnerships). Gardens in the ground, science on the lab bench, classes for kids who'll become tomorrow's beekeepers.
Helper-bee program seed funding
Small grants to volunteer helper-bees who answer real questions on /community — the people who teach others, host calls, share knowledge. Building a network, not buying ads.
Fuel the hive & the bees.
