Accessibility

Last updated June 5, 2026

Apiary is built for everyone — including people the rest of tech tends to leave behind. Accessibility is part of the mission, not an afterthought.

This is a plain-language starting policy, written for transparency. It is not legal advice and has not yet been reviewed by an attorney. Questions or requests: help@apiary.app.

Our commitment

We aim for the standard pages of Apiary — the home, learn, community, and reading-room pages — to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 level AA as a target: readable contrast, clear structure, keyboard navigation, and labels that screen readers can use.

Known limitation: the 3D bee-world

The live 3D bee-world game (/play and /live) is a real-time visual and WebGL experience. Like most 3D games, it cannot yet be made fully usable with a screen reader or keyboard-only, and we want to be honest about that rather than pretend otherwise. We are actively improving its controls (on-screen buttons, larger touch targets, simpler navigation) and welcome ideas.

What we've done and are doing

  • dark, high-contrast theme with readable text sizes;
  • on-screen controls so the game doesn't depend on a keyboard;
  • plain-language writing across the site (no jargon walls);
  • ongoing work on labels, focus order, and contrast.

Need help, or hit a barrier?

If any part of Apiary is hard to use, or you need information in a different format, email help@apiary.app. Tell us what you were trying to do and we'll help you get it done another way — and fix the barrier so the next person doesn't hit it.

Feedback

Accessibility is never “done.” If something works for you, or doesn't, we genuinely want to hear it. The hive gets better when you tell us.
