Life Cycle

Alternative Methods

  • Apivar, a non-chemical treatment that uses oxalic acid to kill varroa mites
  • Essential oils, such as thymol and menthol, have been shown to repel varroa mites

Prevention


Preventing varroa infestations is often more effective than treating them:

  • Use resistant bee stocks, such as those bred for varroa resistance
