Turn a Long Draft into a Reader Question Map

AI-assisted practical guide. Examples are hypothetical; proposed workflows are editorial suggestions.

A reader-question map can reveal where a long draft is useful and where it leaves the reader stranded. Ask an AI assistant to map questions to actual passages instead of generating a generic outline that could fit any article.

Define the reader and task

State who the draft is for and what they should be able to understand or do after reading it. Request three categories: questions answered, questions partially answered, and questions raised but unanswered. Require passage references for each judgment.

Keep suggested additions separate from claims already supported by the draft.

Examine a hypothetical gap

Suppose a guide explains how to submit a form but never says what happens after submission. The map can identify that missing reader question. It should not invent a processing time or confirmation procedure to make the article feel complete.

Review whether the question actually belongs within scope. Some gaps need another source; others need a clear boundary or link to a separate guide.

Turn the map into edits

Choose a small set of changes and record what evidence each requires. After revising, check the map against the new draft. The assistant's role is to surface possible gaps, not to define the audience's needs without your judgment. A successful map connects reader questions to content and makes the remaining uncertainty visible.
