As we transition from static software to self-governing-ai-agents, the stakes of the diversity push reach a critical inflection point. We are no longer just talking about who gets a job at a tech company; we are talking about the encoded values of autonomous entities that will manage our lives.

An AI agent is essentially a sophisticated pattern-recognition engine. If the patterns it recognizes are derived from a narrow slice of human experience, the agent will operate with a "cognitive monoculture." For example, an AI agent tasked with optimizing urban traffic flow might inadvertently prioritize the commutes of high-income neighborhoods if its training data is skewed toward the movements of luxury vehicle owners. Moving Toward a Regenerative Tech Ecosystem

The final stage of the push for tech diversity is moving beyond "inclusion" (which implies being let into an existing room) toward "regeneration" (which implies building a new room entirely). A regenerative approach to tech diversity doesn't just ask how we can get more marginalized people into Big Tech; it asks how we can support the creation of new technical ecosystems that are diverse by design.
